A Superhero iPhone Takes On the Landfill: South Beach Global Launches “SuperTony” to Put Reuse Before Recycling

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Nov. 1, 2026 — South Beach Global LLC today released SuperTony: Rescue Protocol, a 64-second animated trailer with a serious message: the most sustainable phone is the one that never reaches the landfill. In the film, a caped iPhone hero and his sidekick, Giga the GPU, race to buy back ten thousand phones, CPUs and graphics cards before the villain Lord Landfill can crush them — a cartoon version of what the Miami Beach hardware recovery company does every day.
The problem SuperTony fights is real, and it is measured by the United Nations. According to the Global E-waste Monitor 2024, published by UNITAR and the International Telecommunication Union, the world generated 62 million tonnes of electronic waste in 2022, and only 22.3% of it was documented as formally collected and recycled. Generation is climbing by about 2.6 million tonnes a year toward a projected 82 million tonnes by 2030, while the formal recycling rate is expected to slip, not rise. The discarded stream contains an estimated $62 billion in recoverable metals and materials.
South Beach Global’s position is simple: recycling is the last step, not the first. A phone that still works should keep working — in a student’s backpack, a small business’s back office, or a family’s hands — before it is ever shredded for parts. The company buys iPhones, CPUs, GPUs and other IT hardware from individuals, businesses and IT departments, tests and audits every device, and returns it to service. Devices that truly reach end of life are routed to responsible recycling channels instead of landfill.
“We made a cartoon because the numbers alone don’t move people — but the numbers are why we made it,” said Richard C Weigand, Managing Member of South Beach Global LLC. “Sixty-two million tonnes a year, and barely a fifth of it handled properly. Meanwhile there is a working phone sitting in a drawer in almost every house in America. That phone is not trash. It’s inventory for somebody’s second chance. Our hero’s superpower is the same as our business: he buys it, fair price, today — before the landfill gets it.”
The company is using the campaign to call on two audiences:
- Businesses, schools, hospitals and IT departments retiring device fleets: a buy-back check is worth more than a disposal bill, and every reused device is one that never enters the waste stream.
- Individuals with phones, tablets or computer hardware in drawers and closets: a device sold is a device reused. South Beach Global publishes its buy prices openly at southbeachglobal.com and pays on verified inspection.
